Sudhir Mittal | Director and CIO | XandPi explains the evolution of technology solutions from education to corporate..
What is the operating business model of XamdPi and how all does technology drive the business?
In the beginning of 2019, we started in education domain for content development for e schooling from 6th – 12th standard, including deaf and dumb, and blinds. Gradually we started the next model in the education sector for mock tests and online examination and virtual classes through an online platform called Kishtab. Now we are moving from education to corporate and healthcare.
What are the key technology solutions used by XandPi and what are their use cases?
XandPi has become a unique solution for deaf and dumb and blinds, the first of its kind. We provide this access of the content to normal as well as those disabled students on Internet .We host the contents of their server, wherever they want, including schools, coaching centers, institutions or even on mobile devices. Kishtab is one of the brands of XandPi and its focus is to address virtual classes, webinars, interactive conferences, online exams and mock tests. This platform is also hosted on the Amazon Cloud through a secure tunnel which is compatible to all mobiles and it is extensively used. In fact, when we started this journey, we were not even aware that situation like COVID-19 will be there and we are going to experience nationwide lockdown.
With the impact of COVID-19 expected to last for quite sometime, what sort of digital models for education would finally emerge and stabilize?
Because of COVID-19, education is being forced to shift the business model and their delivery working model. With Kishtab, we had developed a solution where the teachers and students can have a physical classroom scenario. So we had all the possibilities, we used through a whiteboard education system and smart pad system. The platform supports the presentations also.
Secondly, in the model, it is possible to invite any students on that board and give a presentation. In addition to that, it supports recording as well. So any student can be promoted as a presenter and it supports the complete attendance system like a normal class scenario. Smart lectures can be put on their website for future reference. In case somebody or any institution does not have a website, we can create one for them and put those recordings on the cloud. So this is the additional facility, which others do not provide. Some people use Zoom for a virtual class, but Zoom, does not provide any services more and they do not have any video delivery system. If you want to just record it, we provide ideo delivery system and editing of the videos is possible and this solution is all developed by us.
In a more digital education model, how would you ensure the security aspect?
In Kishtab, we implemented four level of security right from secured Amazon Cloud and each domain is IP secured. Since it is a browser based solution, we do not capture the individual information, which other solutions are capturing and doing commercialization of the data. This is a compliance of the international GDPR regulation. Each meetings, conference and classes are password protected.
From a CSIR scientist to CIOs in organizations across sectors to your current role in education, what are your key takeaways in terms of digital transformation of organizations?
During this journey, what I understand is the cost and robustness is the demand from everywhere. The reason can be COVID-19 or because of any other reason or the global competition, the solutions should be cost effective with all possible robustness and third is security and fourth is scalability. We started this solution for education, then corporate and now we are moving forward to healthcare. Our roadmap is for telemonitoring, telemedicine, teleconsulting across the world. And accordingly we are embedding the facility in the system.
With education in India being mass spread, how would you ensure its affordability to students from all economic starta?
In the current scenario, education has become more affordable because of technology. In a traditional way, students need to buy the books, need to travel to school and there are other overheads. These are not required for the virtual class, online interactive class in Kishtab, students do not have to buy the books, but the solution we provide for high school, all the contents, and lectures from the teachers are available. So in that case, they need not invest anything, just your internet connectivity. Even if they do not have the Internet, they can go to the school campus and they can browse them all. They can optimize their time. And of course, everybody is using the Google facility. There are challenges attached with this as it also affects the health. So you need a very smart balance between health while you are studying. There are a lot of suggestions from the health experts for students leveraging you online classes like you must do yoga or some exercise, take regular breaks after every two hours.
How would Kishtab differentiate itself from other digital education platforms?
As I mentioned, we are following four level securities. Secondly, we are committed not to commercialize the participant data. Thirdly, it gets cheaper than any of those solutions. Fourth, it is an Indian product and the first of its kind. We integrate this conferencing and classes with the video delivery system. Whatever we recorded, we provide. We display those content either on the individual website or on college website. We provide all the control like a physical classroom, all the facility at a very affordable price.
