PlayShifu Raises $7 Million to Bring AR Educational Toys to Classrooms

In a Series A round led by Chiratae, Inventus Capital and Bharat Innovation Fund, PLAYSHIFU, a Bangalore-based educational toy developer, raised $7 million. Also contributing to the round was previous the backer IDFC-Parampara Fund.

Founded in 2016, PlayShifu provides physical toys coupled with mobile devices for geography and STEM subjects to generate augmented-reality teaching experiences. These kits begin each at $49.99. According to VentureBeat, the firm claims to have reached more than 100,000 kids in the U.S. and plans to enter this year’s school market. It also works to expand its retail footprint beginning in 2020 to more than 30 nations.

PlayShifu presently has 55 employees and a San Francisco office as well. It’s raised $8.5 million to date.
